Description

Offer referral to our community partners in Health and Medical Services, Human Services, Animal and Environmental Services, and Youth and Education Services. Also offers The TALK Helpline (434) 924-8255 is available 24 hours (September 9-May 10) annually. This is a student-run, student-operated program, staffed entirely of volunteers, affiliated with Madison House. Strives to provide callers with an emphatic ear for any sort of issue they wish to discuss. While HELP LINE volunteers complete a training program, we are not professionals, and so we focus on finding long-term services in the community for our callers, such as counseling services, medical services, drug treatment programs, and the like.

Provides information and referral for Holiday Assistance, Housing Rehabilitation and Repair, Mentoring, Tutoring, and Companionship in the County of Albemarle and the City of Charlottesville. (Service available Sept 9 to May 11) Also offers The TALK Helpline (434) 295-8255 is available 24 hours (September 9-May 10) annually. This is a student-run, student-operated program, staffed entirely of volunteers, affiliated with Madison House. Strives to provide callers with an emphatic ear for any sort of issue they wish to discuss. While HELP LINE volunteers complete a training program, we are not professionals, and so we focus on finding long-term services in the community for our callers, such as counseling services, medical services, drug treatment programs, and the like. Also coordinates University of Virginia student volunteers. Volunteers work with over 85 community agencies to serve area elderly, children, persons with handicaps, and others with special needs. Each school year 3,300 students volunteer more than 110,000 hours in 16 student managed programs aimed at meeting the special needs of the community.
