The main purpose of the Evacuation Assembly Centers is to provide a checkpoint to monitor radiation contamination. Evacuation Assembly Centers will also provide shelter, food and clothing for those who need assistance.

If an accident were to occur at the Surry Power Station, the area would be assessed to determine if there has been any impact on the environment. If there is any impact, the public in the affected area would be notified. If any actions are necessary, the public would be informed of such actions to be taken.
