Housing counselors will listen to the situation; whether the person is renting or buying a home. Can speak with landlords or mortgage companies and help find local resources. Offers Renter Education Classes. Free Renter Education Workshops are held monthly in the NRV. Provides direct loans to borrowers who cannot obtain financing elsewhere. They must have good credit and meet reasonable underwriting criteria. Loans are for home ownership opportunities and assistance to low-income households to purchase, construct, and repair a home. Loans can be up to 100% loan to value ratios. Offers no-interest, deferred repayment loans to assist low-income home buyers with down payment and closing costs for the purchase of a home in the City. Applicants may also be eligible for the CHRP Program, which reduce Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) mortgages 1% lower than VHDA's published First-Time Homebuyer mortgage interest rate.

The First-time Homebuyer Program offers homeowner education classes, credit report reviews and housing counseling to assist County residents and local workforce in purchasing safe, decent, affordable housing. The program also assists qualified buyers with down payment and closing cost assistance and in designated areas offers low-interest rate financing. HRPDC HOME down payment assistance funds are available to assist with purchases of homes throughout the County. The Community Homeownership Revitalization funds are available to purchase attached and detached single-family homes in designated revitalization areas. The Community Homeownership Revitalization Program sets aside funds for permanent financing with an interest rate 0.5% below VHDA's prevailing rate at the time the lender locks in the loan.

Cornerstones provides First Time Homebuyer Classes; participants will receive a Certificate valid for two years to apply for the affordable housing programs in Virginia and access down payment assistance grants from Virginia Housing. The classes are free, but registrations are required.
