Provides assistance and support to victims of crime, including explaining the court process, courtroom accompaniment, referrals for emergency services and crisis needs, help in completing forms, intercession with other criminal justice agencies, and support throughout the criminal justice process.
Provides direct services to victims and witnesses of crime.
Hospital accompaniment services are provided to survivors seeking support while at a hospital emergency department for evidence collection or treatment relating to domestic and/or sexual violence. Advocates provide supportive counseling, crisis intervention, advocacy, and referral information for additional community resources in the hospital 24/7 in-person or via phone.

Provides support and assistance to individual and families experiencing intimate partner violence including 24 hour hotline shelter, support groups, crisis intervention, and legal advocacy. Many survivors find going through the legal process to be a frightening and overwhelming experience. First Step's Advocates can go with clients to offer moral support and help to create a safe space around them as they go through the process from getting a Protective Order through the entire court process.

Provides direct services to victims and witnesses of crime. Services include: Monitoring restitution payments to ensure that they are being made in a timely fashion; assist in filing for Criminal Injuries Compensation Fund; intervention and follow-up counseling; notification of prisoner status; provide employer intercession; Assist in writing Impact Statements; assist in return of property being held for evidence; updates on case status; accompany victims to court; referals to other resources; assist in obtaining protection; providde advance notice of judicial proceedings.

Offers crisis intervention, court accompaniment, social service referrals, assistance with restitution and compensation claims, accompanies clients to meetings with law enforcement, prosecutors, and other agencies.

The witness/victim assistance program helps victims and witnesses of crimes by providing information and support throughout the court process. Victims and witnesses play an important role in the prosecuting of cases, which may be frightening and frustrating. The witness/victim assistance program is here to make the experience easier for you. The services of the witness/victim assistance program are free.
Provides crisis intervention and court accompaniment and referrals throughout the prosecution process for city victims of crime. Provides an update on the status of the pending criminal case. Coordinator is available to explain the prosecution procedure (i.e., what is expected of the victim, and what the victim may expect). Addresses safety concerns of the victim and will work with employer or school to advocate for the victim. Assists with victim compensation. Victim(s) or witnesses(es) need to contact this office if telephone or address changes.
Assists all victims of crime with court advocacy, referrals for services relating to counseling, financial aid, crisis counseling, assistance with obtaining protection orders, and legal advocacy.
The Halifax Victim/Witness Assistance Program is available to help victims or witnesses understand the court process, their rights, and their role as a victim or witness. The advocate serves as a liaison.

Assist victims of domestic violence in navigating the legal system. Advocates can also assist victims in obtaining protective orders and can provide court accompaniment. The shelter does not employ a lawyer, services are rendered by staff. These services are available to shelter residents and community members.

Administers the Victim/Witness Programs which has been established to reduce the confusion and trauma that victims and witnesses of crimes experience by explaining the criminal process, and to ensure that these people are aware of the services available to them under the law. If you have been the victim of a crime or a witness to a crime, it may be very difficult for you to have to appear in court, or to deal with the complexities or the criminal justice system. You may need assistance in dealing with the process emotionally, financially, and in other ways. Victim/Witness Assistance Program was established to make the process easier and to assist you through the whole process.

The primary goal is to reduce the trauma a child may endure during the investigation and prosecution of child abuse and to increase positive emotional closing for children and their families, so that they may go on and lead a positive, healthy life. The CAC is an associate member of the National Children's Alliance, and the state chapter of CACs, Children's Advocacy Centers of Virginia.
Liaison between prosecutors, victims, and witnesses in criminal cases. The Women's Resource Center provides justice related assistance to individuals experiencing sexual and domestic violence. All assistance through the Legal Advocacy Program is free and confidential. Services include: Information and assistance related to protective orders Assistance in filing paperwork related to custody, visitation, or child support Assistance in filing paperwork for criminal warrants Accompaniment to interviews with law enforcement or to the Commonwealth's Attorney Court preparation assistance Assistance in filing for Legal Aid Representation Assistance in completing paperwork for the Virginia Victims Fund Information and referral to other agencies and resources in the New River Valley
The program assists victims throughout the criminal justice process to include providing courtroom explanations, courtroom escorts, assist with safety issues and needs, referrals to counselors and other area resources, petitioning for protective orders, assistance in payment of medical bills for crime related injuries, placement in a shelter or safe house, and more.
