Helps victims and witnesses of crimes by providing information and support throughout the court process.
Provides support to victims and witnesses of felony crimes throughout the court process, with the goal of reducing their confusion and trauma by explaining the criminal process and providing information and/or services.

The Victim/Witness Assistance Program, operating within the office of the Commonwealth's Attorney, provides assistance to victims and witnesses of crime throughout the criminal justice process to ensure they are treated fairly and compassionately. AYUDA DISPONIBLE EN ESPANOL. Provides direct services to victims of crime in Chesterfield County, including explanation of the criminal justice process, protective order assistance, court escorts, and referrals to other local agencies for counseling and/or financial assistance.
The Halifax Victim/Witness Assistance Program is available to help victims or witnesses understand the court process, their rights, and their role as a victim or witness. The advocate serves as a liaison.

Provides direct services to victims and witnesses of crime. These services are defined as those efforts that respond to the emotional and physical needs of crime victims, assist victims of crime to stabilize their lives after victimization, assist victims to understand and participate in the criminal justice system, and provide victims with information and referrals for services. The program advocates for the victim to assure that the victim of crime is accorded fairness, dignity and respect by the officers, employees of the Commonwealth and it's political subdivisions and officers of the courts as provided by law. Services provided include: Monitoring restitution payments to ensure that they are being made in a timely fashion * assist in filing for Criminal Injuries Compensation Fund * provide intervention and follow-up counseling * notification of the prisoner's status, provide you with employer intercession * assist in writing Impact Statements * assist in return of property being held for evidence * updates on case status * go to court with victim or witness * provide referral to other resources * assist in obtaining protection * advance notice of judicial proceedings.

The Norfolk Family Justice Center is a multi-agency center that co-locates law enforcement officers, prosecutors, civil legal assistance, victim-witness advocates, social service specialists, a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) clinic, Physical Evidence Recovery Kits (PERKS) can be completed, and victim services including a crisis hotline and intervention, victim advocacy, counseling support groups, wellness classes, and childcare.
If you have been the victim of a crime or a witness to a crime, it may be very difficult for you to have to appear in court, or to deal with the complexities or the criminal justice system. You may need assistance in dealing with the process emotionally, financially, and in other ways. Victim/Witness Assistance Program was established to make the process easier and to assist you through the whole process.
