The Virginia Legal Aid Society, Inc. (VLAS) is a non-profit law firm that provides legal information, advice, and representation in civil cases to low-income individuals and families in Central, Southside, and Western Tidewater Virginia. VLAS uses legal skills to solve problems in such areas as housing, healthcare, public benefits, economic self-sufficiency, education, consumer purchases, and family relations.

This program provides free civil (non-criminal) legal assistance to low income people, and those 60 years of age or older, in the cities of Petersburg, Hopewell and Colonial Heights, and the counties of Charles City, Dinwiddie, Prince George and Surry.

Helps with family disputes (i.e. domestic violence, divorce); debts and bankruptcy; housing, foreclosures and landlord-tenant disputes; eligibility for various government benefits (such a food stamps, TANF and SSI benefits); access to health care (for example, issues involving Medicaid and Medicare); Power of Attorney forms and wills; consumer disputes, payday lending and other predatory lending issues, and issues affecting seniors (such as exploitation and problems with nursing homes).

Provides free, legal assistance to elderly, disabled, or low-income individuals and families who face the loss of a critical need such as personal safety, income, housing, medical benefits, education or family stability. LSNV provides services in a variety of substantive civil legal areas, including: family law, housing law, elder law, public benefits claims, access to health care, child advocacy, employment law, consumer law and AIDS/HIV issues. Staff and volunteers provide legal advice, brief service, and representation in administrative hearings and in court, as well as community legal education, and advocacy before local and state governmental entities, all without charge.

Provides free legal advice/representation. Main focus is on the elderly (individuals over age 60) and victims of domestic violence who are residents of Rockbridge County. The CLPC will, however, consider client needs outside these areas in exceptional circumstances.
