Provides comprehensive adult educational services for students over the age of 18. Programs are designed to teach the needs of the high school drop out, the displaced worker, and the non-English speaking adult. Classes are offered in Adult Basic Education/Pre-GED, General Education Development, English for Speakers of Other Languages, and Community Education.

Provides instructional services to Charlottesville, Albemarle County and other Central Virginia residents whose academic skills are below the 12th grade level. Services help adults improve their basic skills, prepare for the GED exam, learn English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and learn together with their children. General Adult Education (GAE) provides instructional services to Charlottesville, Albemarle County and other Central Virginia residents who are working toward a high school diploma. Southside Programs for Adult Continuing Education provides adult education classes to adults 18 years of age and older.

The adult education program provides educational opportunities for adults who wish to acquire competencies necessary for further education, employment, or personal enrichment.

Literacy for Life provides individualized, one-to-one and small group tutoring and classes for adults in reading, writing, math , ESL, VPT Preparation, work skills and health literacy. The program also supports learners pursuing high school completion through the General Educational Development (GED) Test and National External Diploma Program (NEDP). Literacy for Life's offsite program provides classes taught by professional instructors at area businesses, nonprofit agencies, and public schools.

The Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education links education and career skills for the creation of lifelong learning opportunities. The Charlottesville City Schools Adult Education program believes that all adults are capable of learning and deserve a chance to further their education. We offer quality services at affordable cost to a diverse adult population. We offer classes in Basic Academic Skills, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESL-five levels), GED Prep, and Family Literacy classes to improve the ability of adults to meet their goals as parents, workers and community members. We also work with businesses to provide custom-designed classes for employees.

Adult Basic Education (ABE) - This class develops ABE skills to the 10th grade level in the areas of math, writing science, social studies, and reading. Special emphasis is placed on individual instruction to meet the specific needs of the learner.

The only Virginia Board-approved High School Equivalency examination in Virginia is the GED test, developed jointly by the American Council on Education and Pearson Vue, to enable persons who have not graduated from high school to demonstrate the attainment of abilities normally associated with completion of a high school program of study. The 2014 GED® test series measures not only high school equivalency, but also career and college readiness. The four tests include Reasoning through Language Arts (Writing and Reading), Mathematical Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies

Helps adults with limited educational opportunities to reach their individual goals and potential as workers, citizens and family members by providing quality adult education services throughout the region. Offers Adult Education to help adults improve reading, writing and math skills to help them qualify for a better job, improve family resources or begin working toward the GED credential. Provides Workplace Literacy classes on site for business and industry. The curriculum is custom designed to meet the needs of the employer and the employee. Also provides a Family Literacy program to help parents in the role as their child's first teacher. Serves the counties of Clarke, Frederick, Shenandoah, Warren and the City of Winchester.

The Powhatan County Public School System has an adult education program that is available to any adult who is 18 and over and who is a resident of Powhatan County. There is also a Senior School designed to meet the needs and interests of the senior adults residing in Powhatan County.

Offers general education services for grades K through 12 and special education services for ages two through 21. Provides GED and career technical training programs. Continuing education services are available to the general public. Facilities are available for rental by community groups.

Offers an educational and career development training program free of charge to young adults between the ages of 18-24 who did not complete high school and have a desire to improve the qualify of their lives. Program participants are given the opportunity to: obtain a GED, enroll at Thomas Nelson Community College and earn up to 5 college credits, earn a Virginia's Career Readiness Certificate (bronze, sliver or gold) credential, obtain short-term occupational training (Welding, HVAC, Medical Coding, Automotive, Carpentry, and many more), enhance basic workplace readiness skills.
