Classes usually offered for about a week on a college campus and are taught by faculty. Some scholarships available; call for a Hostelship application. Houses the Afro-Lee Collection, named after Virginia Lee, a former librarian of the Gainsboro Branch, of rare books and ready-reference resources on African-American history and culture. Offers not-for-credit learning opportunities for community members age 50 and older. Ultimately, the program is a community of lifelong learners who explore topics together and do what the University of Lynchburg is known for — building friendships and connections that last a lifetime. Program features weekly presentations on a variety of engaging topics, taught by current and retired faculty and staff members or area educators and presenters. Ten classes are offered each semester (fall and spring), with occasional field trips during the semesters and over the summer. LIFE@Lynchburg is for people who love learning, want to dig deeper in their areas of interest, or discover something new.
This program brings people together in study groups to discuss, debate and learn about important global challenges of the time. Any individual with an interest in expanding his/her knowledge of international relations as well as engaging in active discussion of crucial global issues is welcome to join. MAD4YU has provide FREE tutoring, life enhancement, and computer training to under-resourced individuals in Richmond and surrounding counties and families (youth 1st-12th, adults, and active seniors) with collaborations, donations, contributions, and assistance of committed and talented volunteers as agents of change. The name reflects its very purpose: making a difference for you. That is - providing the tools for success - using computer literacy and study skills as the catalyst - to equip those who otherwise might not have access.

The Valentine offers hands-on, interactive programs for both students and adults in a continuing effort to bring Richmond's diverse history to life. Reservations must be made in advance. All education programs are compatible with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) requirements, and led by experienced Valentine educators. Programs are 60 minutes in length and include student workbooks.
Provide instruction in fundamental learning skills for adults who have interrupted formal schooling and need to raise their level of education to increase their self-confidence and/or prepare for an occupation.

The Institute for Early Learning offers professional learning opportunities for educators working with children. Courses, workshops and online sessions provide educational opportunities that support quality learning experiences and quality learning environments for children of all ages. The Lifetime Learning Institute of Northern Virginia offers educational and cultural pursuits to adults age 50 and over. Provide members with more than 100 classes (virtual and in-person) year-round, informal special interest groups, monthly speaker forums, social events, and the opportunity for new friendships.

Many of the programs are offered online, making them accessible from where you live or work. Several are offered onsite at our Academic Centers located across Virginia.
