The Charlottesville City Schools Adult Education program believes that all adults are capable of learning and deserve a chance to further their education. We offer quality services at affordable cost to a diverse adult population. We offer classes in Basic Academic Skills, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESL-five levels), GED Prep, and Family Literacy classes to improve the ability of adults to meet their goals as parents, workers and community members. We also work with businesses to provide custom-designed classes for employees.

Loudoun Literacy Council offers an early literacy enrichment program in partnership with Loudoun County Head Start and STEP programs. Assists children in developing necessary skills to be successful learners and adults to be effective parents. Also, offers literacy enrichment program to families in homeless shelters and to at-risk new parents. Provide Baby Book Bundles to low-income, expectant mothers. Also distributes gently used books to families in Loudoun County who have limited access to books in the home.

The Life Enrichment Center (LEC) is a non-profit organization providing literacy tutoring and other life-giving initiatives for elementary students from Title I Schools across Virginia. Students reading below their grade level receive literacy-based computer lessons. Tutors are matched with one student, one hour a week, for the academic year.

Provides supplemental educational services to the children, aged 3-21, of current and former migrant farm workers and highly mobile agricultural laborers. Services offered are assistance enrolling in school, mentoring and tutoring support and arrangements, including transportation and Spanish/English interpretation, for appointments that directly affect a child's education or well-being. The Shenandoah Valley Migrant Education Program (MEP) serves the public school systems in the cities of Harrisonburg and Winchester and the counties of Clarke, Frederick, Fauquier, Loudoun, Page, Prince William, Rappahannock, Rockingham, Shenandoah and Warren. Our team includes 5 year-round, bilingual (Spanish/English) Migrant Student Advocates, several work-study student employees and over 20 trained volunteer tutors.

Offers diagnostic and remedial services for children with reading difficulties. A full reading diagnosis is conducted every M & T periodically during the academic year. In addition, interviews are held with parents to establish history and case background. Instruction is on a one-to-one basis. Does not offer direct tutor services, but maintains list of available tutors.

Provide free books to educators and families of the 757 through partnerships and our Big Free Book Store. Provides a reading program for children who are living in shelters. Volunteers spend about an hour with the children in the shelters, reading to them and doing a support activity.
