FREE literacy classes and tutoring for adults. Small classes cover the components of reading, writing, everyday math, and digital learning.

Provides area adults with the educational opportunities needed to be successful workers, parents and community members. The Charlottesville City Schools Adult Education program believes that all adults are capable of learning and deserve a chance to further their education. We offer quality services at affordable cost to a diverse adult population. We offer classes in Basic Academic Skills, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESL-five levels), GED Prep, and Family Literacy classes to improve the ability of adults to meet their goals as parents, workers and community members. We also work with businesses to provide custom-designed classes for employees.

Provides adults in the SAW area confidential one-to-one, small group, and/or online tutoring for adults in basic reading and writing. Serves both native and non-native speakers of English. All of the volunteer tutors are trained by the organization. Schedules are flexible.

Loudoun Literacy Council offers an early literacy enrichment program in partnership with Loudoun County Head Start and STEP programs. Assists children in developing necessary skills to be successful learners and adults to be effective parents. Also, offers literacy enrichment program to families in homeless shelters and to at-risk new parents. Provide Baby Book Bundles to low-income, expectant mothers. Also distributes gently used books to families in Loudoun County who have limited access to books in the home.

The Nottoway County Literacy Program provides free, confidential, one-on-one tutoring in the areas of literacy, GED preparation, English as a Second Language (ESOL), Technology, Math, and Career Building.

Established to assist those whose clients have a need for adult education/literacy services. Coordinates & promotes community participation and acts as a referral network between educational providers and public service providers.

Provides one-to-one tutoring at no cost for adults with low reading skills. Center is located in School Board Annex - 31 Baltimore Ave. Alternate sites available.

The Life Enrichment Center (LEC) is a non-profit organization providing literacy tutoring and other life-giving initiatives for elementary students from Title I Schools across Virginia. Students reading below their grade level receive literacy-based computer lessons. Tutors are matched with one student, one hour a week, for the academic year. For Children K-2nd grade

Adult Education Programs provide Latino families with tools to thrive and flourish. Programs offered are: ESL, also GED, Literacy and Citizenship classes in Spanish.

Helps adults with limited educational opportunities to reach their individual goals and potential as workers, citizens and family members by providing quality adult education services throughout the region. Offers Adult Education to help adults improve reading, writing and math skills to help them qualify for a better job, improve family resources or begin working toward the GED credential. Provides Workplace Literacy classes on site for business and industry. The curriculum is custom designed to meet the needs of the employer and the employee. Also provides a Family Literacy program to help parents in the role as their child's first teacher. Serves the counties of Clarke, Frederick, Shenandoah, Warren and the City of Winchester.

Free literacy services for adults with low reading/speaking skills provided by volunteer tutors. ESLC provides training for volunteer tutors as well as professional development opportunities.

Provides and coordinates volunteer literacy services for educationally disadvantaged adults in the Central Shenandoah Valley. Provides tutors for ABE, ESL, and GED adult students and those who wish to improve basic reading and writing skills or prepare for U.S. Citizenship. Tutors are free.

Provides training for adults by volunteers to increase reading and writing skills, and conversational English for non-English speaking adults. Basic computer literacy classes and GED preparation are also offered.

Provides supplemental educational services to the children, aged 3-21, of current and former migrant farm workers and highly mobile agricultural laborers. Services offered are assistance enrolling in school, mentoring and tutoring support and arrangements, including transportation and Spanish/English interpretation, for appointments that directly affect a child's education or well-being. The Shenandoah Valley Migrant Education Program (MEP) serves the public school systems in the cities of Harrisonburg and Winchester and the counties of Clarke, Frederick, Fauquier, Loudoun, Page, Prince William, Rappahannock, Rockingham, Shenandoah and Warren. Our team includes 5 year-round, bilingual (Spanish/English) Migrant Student Advocates, several work-study student employees and over 20 trained volunteer tutors.

The Children's Book Bank helps to ensure that all children have quality books in their home, have the pride of book ownership, and have opportunities to read and be read to. Offers diagnostic and remedial services for children with reading difficulties. A full reading diagnosis is conducted every M & T periodically during the academic year. In addition, interviews are held with parents to establish history and case background. Instruction is on a one-to-one basis. Does not offer direct tutor services, but maintains list of available tutors.

Provide free books to educators and families of the 757 through partnerships and our Big Free Book Store. Provides a reading program for children who are living in shelters. Volunteers spend about an hour with the children in the shelters, reading to them and doing a support activity.
