Program offered to high school students from low-income families and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelors degree. During the academic year, students receive personal and academic counseling, tutorial assistance, supplemental instruction, as well as cultural and social enrichment experiences. A Summer Academy at the Chesapeake Campus provides students the opportunity to experience campus life while attending classes. The highlight of the summer program is a major cultural and educational field trip.

Project Discovery is designed to stimulate first-generation college-bound students through information and encouragement. Activities include cultural workshops, guidance in class selection, SOL and SAT preparatory classes, workshops in both financial aid and college life, and college campus tours. Project Discovery s curriculum offers students a place to define and build their character and their self-esteem through relationships established with one another and their Program Specialist.

The Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC) Program will offer educational support to adults who may want to re-enter high school equivalency programs as well as provide guidance about college admissions and careers. The program will connect participants with tutors, mentors and counselors who will coach them through the college admissions process, teach them about financial aid and offer guidance on course selection.
Project Discovery encourages students to stay in and graduate high school and provides resources and tools for students to successfully make the transition to post-secondary education.

Makes a difference in the lives of children who are seriously emotionally disturbed by providing a positive and caring role model, known as a mentor, who spends quality time finding a child's strengths and building on them. Project Discovery is school drop-out prevention, college access preparatory program serving economically disadvantaged and first generation college students. The program is designed to promote education as a means to ending the cycle of poverty for current and future generations of students. Students attend various informative workshops designed to stimulate interest in attending and graduating colleges and or preparatory schools. The purpose of the Passport to Education program is to help Latino students and families navigate and understand the many aspects of the school system and the resources available to them, while marketing higher education as a viable and important next step. By connecting businesses, educational organizations, and the Latino community, the Passport to Education Program will be able to address specific language and cultural challenges that Latino families face in understanding the importance of higher education and the means to achieve it.
Project Discovery works with middle and high school students in Tazewell County providing workshops & activities in career exploration and college preparation, cultural and recreation events, and visits to colleges and universities. Students must be first-generation college students to be eligible to participate. A new community initiative is our College Fair. The Fair hosts representatives from the following colleges, universities and other post-secondary opportunities: Bluefield University, Bluefield State University, Concord University, Old Dominion University, East Tennessee State University, Tusculum University, Wytheville Community College, King University, University of Virginia, Southwest Virginia Community College, National Guard and Tri-County Driving Academy. This one-day event allows high school students to learn about available opportunities and options to continue their education.

Youth Work Experience Coaches to Ensure Success The Goodwill Youth Work Experience program provides work experience and vocational activities to youth, ages 14 to 21, who are economically disadvantaged and at-risk. The program focuses on areas such as developing work maturity skills, writing a resume, interview skills, problem solving skills, and support services. Youth are referred to the Youth Work Experience program by community and state agencies or the local school systems. The program is funded through the Children's Services Act (CSA) and local or state government. The Youth Work Experience program provides: Paid work experience Transportation Leadership development Supportive services Occupational training skills Follow-up services Benefits of the Program Work within the home community leads to understanding of the importance of giving back. Referral from appropriate agency ensures program outcomes match with youth's needs. Provided transportation ensures participation. Paid community work experience is an educational stipend. Four to one ratio ensures personalized attention. Services are provided as needed in a variety of community settings at times that are agreeable to the youth and his/her family.

Project Discovery is a community-based initiative that helps high school students stay in school and become the first in their families to attend college. The success of Project Discovery is the partnership between the community, public schools and colleges. STOP Incorporated implements Project Discovery in high schools in local high schools. Students in the 9th through 12th grades are eligible to participate. The initiative provides field trips to colleges and universities and financial aid application assistance. Funded to Serve the Cities of Chesapeake and Norfolk STOP's Technology Busprovides elementary to high school students with a mobile technology and training system that creates opportunities for inclusion in the computer programming industry. This initiative provides students onboard, at local multi-city stops, with code-building processes, mentorship and engagement to prepare them for future economic advancement. The Technology Bus provides learning opportunities in computer programming, software design, gaming and robotics and computer repair and maintenance. Funded to Serve the Cities of Chesapeake, Franklin, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach and the Counties of Isle of Wight and Southampton Youth Development Initiatives are designed to engage youth in middle and high school. These programs provide opportunities for them to gain knowledge in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture and Mathematics fields through fun and innovative workshops covering these topics. STOP provides comprehensive summer camp experiences that focus on science and technology as well as tutorial sessions for youth focusing on areas of individual need to ensure that educational fundamentals are obtained. STOP's Youth Development initiatives also encourages students to stay in and graduate high school and provides resources and tools for students to successfully make the transition to post-secondary education. The Upward Bound Program at WCC is a college prep program designed to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from college. The Upward Bound program serves 57 high school students in grades 9 through 12 from George Wythe High School, Rural Retreat High School, Ft Chiswell High School, Carroll County High School, Galax High School, and Marion Senior High School.

Youth perform community service through volunteering and runs the entire year.

Offers a community based mentoring program that addresses the problems of unequal access to higher education by low income and/or potential first generation college or post secondary students. Skyline CAP offers this program in collaboration with Madison County High School. In the local program, Skyline's Project Discovery students meet for workshops once a week to explore their options for life after high school. Participants are encouraged to take the hardest classes in which they can do well, and be involved in school and community activities. They also have the opportunity to visit at least three colleges or trade schools each year. College bound students are also encouraged to apply for at least twenty scholarships.

Provides English language classes and college and career readiness navigation for immigrants and refugee populations.
Provides support and information to low income and/or first generation high school students who are interested in attending college. Services include Saturday field trips to colleges, information regarding financial aid and college admissions, and monthly workshops designed to better prepare the student for college. The program takes place during the school year. Meeting times vary by location and according to need.
Provides preparation and tutoring in English, mathematics, science, foreign language, SAT prep, ACT prep, study and test- taking skills, career planning, time management, communication skills, problem solving, and more. Helps students research colleges and universities, and choose the college that is right for them. Help students apply to the college of their choice and apply for financial aid. Trips to colleges and universities for academic and athletic events are scheduled every year. Takes trips to plays and concerts during both the academic year and summer.
