Safety Education - Lynchburg, Falls Prevention, Central Virginia Alliance for Community Living

Falls Prevention includes two programs: Falls Talk and A Matter of Balance. Falls Talk offers one-on-one interaction with a trained facilitator to help increase an individual's ability to prevent falls, to manage falls if they occur, and to become aware of fall threats (such as personal traits or circumstances that could cause a fall). It is open to individuals 50 years and older and is provided at the consumer's home or via telephone. A Matter of Balance classes help participants view falls and the fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals for increasing activity, and change their environments to reduce fall risk factors. Babysitter's Training - Richmond, American Red Cross Virginia Region

The babysitter's training course is taught in a minimum of seven hours. It is designed for adolescents 11 years of age and older. The course is a dynamic, interactive, activity-based program providing the participants with numerous hands-on learning experiences. Each participant receives a Red Cross Babysitters's Guide, checklist, and course completion certificate.

Health and Safety Training - Halifax, American Red Cross

American Red Cross provide certified classes in CPR, first aid, babysitting, HIV/AIDS and lifeguard and water safety. Taught by Red Cross volunteers to the public. There is no age requirement. The purpose of this program is train individuals to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening emergencies such as respiratory or cardiac problems, sudden illness, and injury. All facilities are physically impaired accessible with notification, hearing and visually impaired can be accommodated and individually read the materials and tests.

A MATTER OF BALANCE is an award-winning program designed to reduce the fear of falling and encourage activity. Classes are held once a week for 8 weeks or twice a week for 4 weeks.
