Eastern Shore Health District offers community health education services and coordinates a Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection program. Talks and/or presentations on topics such as rabies control, HIV/AIDS prevention, nutrition, weight reduction, smoking cessation, stress management and cancer prevention and early detection are provided through the district for various groups and civic organizations.
Health information and screening. The Crater District Area Agency on Aging provides information about health related issues. Activities are designed to prevent disease and promote good health of older persons.
An outreach office of Virginia Commonwealth University Massey Cancer Center, The Cancer Research and Resource Center of Southern Virginia helps cut through the clutter and fear of a very stressful diagnosis by directing cancer patients, survivors and their networks of support on up-to-date, reliable and helpful information.

The Mind and Body Workshop provides innovative interventions for families who have an early diagnosis of MCI or another cognitive impairment. The workshop is a multi-session program series for both the early stage individual and care partner to participate together. Using activities that promote brain health, creative expression, movement, and well-being, the sessions help both parties adjust to and live well with memory loss.

Provides information and supportive services to parents in Wise, Lee, and Scott Counties and the City of Norton. All first-time parents qualify for a free Welcome Baby Package filled with pregnancy and/or parenting information, samples of baby products and a welcome gift. A voluntary program that provides a family with a home visitor that answers questions, calm fears, provide development and health information, support, and connect parents with resources located in their community. Assists parents in discovering ways to help their child be the very best that he or she can be. Holds parent "Get-togethers" that are educational and fun activities, a chance to meet other first-time parents, on-site childcare available if needed during the meeting. Transportation provided or arranged to doctor visits, parent "get-togethers," other important appointments.

Healthy Families provides voluntary, comprehensive home-visiting services that support at-risk expectant and new parents and help prevent poor childhood outcomes. Home visits are activity-based and focus on a variety of topics including healthy family functioning, family goal planning, maternal and child health, positive parenting strategies, child development, and school readiness. Home visitors also provide families with referrals to a wide array of community resources.

The Community Health Education Center provide information on general health topics, cancer and women's and family health. CHEC welcomes anyone with questions on any health topic. CHEC has print books and magazines, internet access, video viewing and a children's area. CHEC has materials for all ages and all reading levels. CHEC staff can help users find need information.

Provides a wide range of services to assist the elderly and their families to improve or maintain the senior citizen's quality of life. Nurses provide health education, blood pressure screenings, and serve as advocates for the elderly. The nurses also provide pre-admission nursing home screenings for nursing home placement, respite, adult day care and personal care services for clients who are Medicaid eligible. Flu and pneumonia clinics are held annually in sites throughout the city and are provided to all citizens at a nominal fee.
