Provides health education information, coordinates fund-raising projects, and conducts cardiovascular education for professionals. Health education includes printed literature available for classes, schools, or at any organizations requesting it, in-school projects and programs, and speakers' bureaus. Health education and prevention programs are of key importance in reducing the medical burden of chronic disease and injury in American society. New River Health District staff offer community programs on a variety of health topics such as nutrition, breast cancer screening, and modifying health risk behaviors, etc., and participate in health fairs and special health observances.
Health Education offers education information, referral, and resource assistance for a wide variety of health issues. Education materials are provided in health fairs, wellness screenings, community locations, and for groups requesting specific topics.

Provides basic health services for migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their families in Southwest Virginia. Offers many services on a sliding scale to migrant and seasonal farmworkers. Services include, but are not limited to, the following: primary care medical services, health education, outreach, health assessments, referrals, and case management. The MHN outreach workers identify health problems and assist farmworkers to obtain health care at one of our clinical partners centers.

American Red Cross provide certified classes in CPR, first aid, babysitting, HIV/AIDS and lifeguard and water safety. Taught by Red Cross volunteers to the public. There is no age requirement. The purpose of this program is train individuals to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening emergencies such as respiratory or cardiac problems, sudden illness, and injury. All facilities are physically impaired accessible with notification, hearing and visually impaired can be accommodated and individually read the materials and tests.
