Healthy Families Fairfax is for expectant parents or families with a newborn who wants help to be the best parent possible. A family support worker will visit you in your home on a regular basis before your child is born and continue to work with you until your child is ready for preschool or kindergarten.

High risk maternal clients and infants up to age 2 are visited monthly by a BabyCare nurse or social worker to assist with case management.

The Resource Mother is a community health worker who develops a supportive mentoring relationship with the teen and her family. From the prenatal period through the infant’s first birthday, the resource mother provides health education; discusses ways to prevent infant injury; models daily living skills; encourages constructive decision making and life-planning; connects the teen to community resources; and provides guidance to assist the teen in making a successful transition to parenthood. The Resource Mother has weekly contact with the teen and her family. This program uses a two-generation or three-generation approach to serve target populations. Educational and support services are also available to other family members such as the partner, the teen's parents, and the infant.

The Healthy Families program provides support to families during pregnancy and the first few years of a child's life Family Support Workers meet with parents in the privacy of their home to provide encouragement and support, as well as share useful child development information, parenting tips, and referrals to other community resources.

An intensive, long-term home visiting and case management services are targeted toward helping families build a foundation for success, where the outcomes of our work are evident in stronger, more self-reliant families, a healthier community, and children who enter school ready to learn and succeed.

Healthy Families provides voluntary, comprehensive home-visiting services that support at-risk expectant and new parents and help prevent poor childhood outcomes. Home visits are activity-based and focus on a variety of topics including healthy family functioning, family goal planning, maternal and child health, positive parenting strategies, child development, and school readiness. Home visitors also provide families with referrals to a wide array of community resources.

The Healthy Start Loving Steps program provides case management services to reduce infant deaths. The Loving Steps provides nutrition counseling and case management services during pregnancy and after the baby is born. Also serve families that have an infant or toddler with nutrition related medical problems.

Families First is a home visiting program for expectant and parenting first-time mothers. Family support workers provide regular home visits to assist mothers in nurturing and caring for their children and themselves. Family support workers share information, videos, and activities about childbirth preparation, child health and development, parenting and parent/child interaction and local resources.

Home visiting program for pregnant women and infants up to age 2. Assessments are done to determine needs. Covers infants from birth to age 2. Provides home visiting with education on how to take care of baby, monitor weight, blood pressure, nutrition, and pregnancy information. Provide assistance to mother for smoking cessation.

An in-home visiting program matches experienced mothers with pregnant teenagers to help provide guidance as they make the adjustment to motherhood.

Home visiting is a proven prevention strategy for delivering family-strengthening services to children and parents. Families are typically referred prenatally or at the time of the baby's delivery. Families will receive an initial visit, during which their strengths and needs are identified. A determination is then made about whether Healthy Families or other services in the community are right for them. Families are voluntarily connected to community resources they prefer. Families who do best in the program are willing to receive at least one home visit per week for the first six months after the baby's birth. After that the frequency is determined by their needs and progress. Families have the choice to receive services until the child enters preschool or until the child's fifth birthday. Families must enroll prenatally or within three months of birth. There are no income restrictions.

The New Parent Support Program (NPSP) offers parental support through a variety of programs, services, and referrals for parents and parents-to-be.
