Lynchburg Area Center for Independent Living promote a philosophy of consumer (ie people with disabilities) control, peer support, self-help, self-determination, equal access, and individual and system advocacy, to maximize the leadership, empowerment, independence, productivity of individuals with significant disabilities into the mainstream of American society.

Assists people with disabilities to acquire the skills needed to live independently, such as financial management, acquired social skills, household management, etc.

Helps people with disabilities who are homeless or who need to locate affordable, accessible housing.

*DOES NOT PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO PAY BILLS**** Provides information and referral, sensitivity trainings, community education and awareness concerning disability related issues and concerns of persons with disabilities. This services is available to all members of the community.

Works with individuals with disabilities to obtain support services from other community agencies. Provides advocacy assistance in areas of Fair Housing and public access under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Funding to construct ramps, install grab bars, railings and complete other home modifications that will enable a disabled individual to remain independent within their own homes. Availability depends on funding sources.

DRRC is a center for independent living and assists individuals with disabilities in becoming independent in their communities. Services include advocacy, peer counseling, independent living skills, and information and referral to disability-related resources. Additional services include benefits planning for those on SSI or SSDI wishing to become employed.

Provides technical assistance, oversight, and compliance to Centers for Independent Living (CILs). CILs provide services and advocacy to promote the leadership, independence, and productivity of people with disabilities. CILs work with both individuals, as well as the local communities, to remove barriers to independence and ensuring equality of persons with disabilities. Provides disability related assistance and services to people with disabilities and the community. Services include: *personal advocacy, *independent living skills training, *employment services, *peer support, *information and referral, *community advocacy, *school and nursing facility transition services, *technical accessibility assistance, *help obtaining home modifications, *help obtaining assistive technology, and *community education and awareness concerning disability-related issues and concerns of persons with disabilities.

Work with individuals with disabilities to teach basic tasks that lead to independence such as doing laundry, cooking, cleaning, budgeting, resume formatting, and employment readiness.

Offers a Center for Independent Living that supports people with disabilities who seek to establish an independent life style. Services include information and referral for affordable/accessible housing, personal care, public transportation, interpreters for the deaf or hard of hearing. Also provides peer counseling, independent living skills training, advocacy. Need for clerical volunteers, literacy tutors, and general advocacy.

Non-profit, community based non-residential organizations that are run by and for people with disabilities. Services include I & R, Advocacy, Independent Living Skills Training, Peer Counseling, Nursing Home and Youth Transition Services. Equipment for hearing impaired such as telephones, doorbells, pocket talkers, etc. Assistance for obtaining eyeglasses.

Fosters a community environment in which people with disabilities can achieve their maximum level of independence. Offers advocacy, information and referral, peer counseling, independent living skills training, transition services for youth, transition services for people with disabilities residing in nursing facilities, assistance devices & accessible home modifications such as ramps and grab bars. Offers community education as well as personal technical assistance on accessibility.

Provides a full range of independent living services (non-residential) to all ages of people with significant disabilities residing in Planning District 22 for the purpose of increasing self sufficiency and full community integration.

Independent Living Coordinators are individuals with disabilities who share similar life experiences to those being served. Through Peer Mentoring, consumers learn about the needs and resources necessary for independent living. Consumers set goals and actively pursue steps to achieve their goals. Peer Mentoring takes place individually or in a group setting.

DRRC is a center for independent living and assists individuals with disabilities in becoming independent in their communities. Services include advocacy, peer counseling, independent living skills, and information and referral to disability-related resources. Energy assistance through Energy Share program (must call for eligibility).

Providing a comprehensive range of services designed to support independent living and enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities in the community.

A nonprofit, community based non-residential organization that is run by and for people with disabilities. A Center of action and coalition. Works to empower people to take charge of their own lifestyles. Designed and operated by people with disabilities. Promotes leadership, empowerment, independence, and productivity of people with disabilities. Works with individuals and with the community, to remove barriers to independence. This is a satellite office. Services include I & R, Advocacy, Peer Counseling, Independent Living Skills Training, Nursing Home and Youth Transition Services. Offers a Center for Independent Living - resource center for persons with disabilities which provides peer counseling, independent living skills training, an advocacy program, consumer groups, and sign language instruction.

Offers services to people with disabilities including peer mentoring, information and referral, individual and systems advocacy, independent living skills training, transition services to youth and those in institutions, accessible and affordable housing information, career supports, assistive technology for deaf and hard of hearing, and transportation to services at the Center.
