Enforces the City animal control ordinances and all other state laws and city ordinances. Officers are certified police officers and possess certifications in euthanasia. Retrieve, impound and return domestic animals who have strayed from their homes. Handle complaints regarding wild or domestic animals that have wandered into yards or homes.

Picks up and impounds or returns to their owners domestic animals who have strayed from their homes. Also enforces leash laws and animal sanitation ordinances and handles complaints regarding domestic animals who have bitten someone or are otherwise making nuisances of themselves. Enforces licensing, rabies vaccination and running at large complaints, rescues injured or sick stray pets, temporary care and shelter of injured wildlife, administers adoption program, educates public about inhumane treatment of animals, assists in rabies related incidents involving domestic and wild cases.

Receives stray and owner relinquished animals from Roanoke City, Roanoke County, Botetourt County and the Town of Vinton and is an open intake facility. Primarily handles stray animals picked up by the Animal Control Officers employed by the municipalities, but also accepts strays that are found, and animals owned, by citizens of the municipalities served. As an open admission facility, we welcome pets from all Stafford County residents. Our primary goal is to find loving homes for all adoptable animals in our care as swiftly as possible. Additionally, we serve as a temporary home for stray animals discovered within our county, working tirelessly to reunite them with their owners.

The unit is responsible for the enforcement of state and local ordinances relating to companion animals and wildlife. Provide guidance in companion animal and wildlife related issues. Employs two full time animal control officers. Handles all animal complaints in Russell County that are out of the Phenix City city limits. Ensures that laws involving the treatment and containment of animals are enforced.

The main purpose for Animal Control in Amelia County is to ensure that people are safe from animals and that animals are both safe and are being properly taken care for. Additionally, a leash law within certain areas of Amelia County requires that dogs must be restrained from running at large in public areas and under the control of their respective owners.

Responsible for animal control within the town limits of Clifton Forge. Animal control is handled by the Designated Police Officers, who, in addition to the respective patrol activities receive additional training on animal control related topics such as: animal control laws, search and seizure and capture techniques. Ensures people are safe from animals and that animals are safe and properly cared for. In Clifton Forge, there are laws requiring dogs to be vaccinated by the time they are 4 months old and they must be licensed every year. Animals which are captured are taken to the Alleghany Humane Society. Dogs are held at the shelter for 10 days then placed up for adoption to the public. Cats are kept for a maximum of 7 days. Animal Control Deputies enforce animal laws and regulations of the State and County. Duties include answering citizen complaints, catching stray, dangerous or destructive dogs, investigating livestock damage or death for compensation claims, investigating possible animal cruelty, neglect, or abandonment, assisting other law enforcement agencies, Conservation Police and Fire & Rescue personnel with animal related calls, maintaining the Animal Shelter and euthanizing animals when necessary
