LupusConnect is an online community where people affected by lupus can engage with others to share experiences, find emotional support and discuss practical ways to live and cope with the disease.

JDRF International - Mid-Atlantic Chapter provides a nationwide network of Advocates who are dedicated to finding a cure for type 1 diabetes.

Designed to assist individuals on the waiting list for the intellectual disability (ID) or developmental disability (DD) Medicaid waivers to access short-term resources, supports, and services that will help them remain in their own community homes. The IFSP Funding Program provides financial assistance to individuals and families awaiting services through one of Virginia's Developmental Disabilities waivers. Individuals on the waitlist may apply for financial assistance to cover eligible costs that support continued living in an independent setting.

Exchanges information, provides support, and shares struggles and triumphs that occur with children with type 1 diabetes. A light supper will be provided. Entire families are welcome and encouraged to attend. Childcare is available.

Support groups are important to our patients' healing process as they provide emotional support from others facing similar, difficult situations. They allow people to share their problems without judgment, process their feelings and hear others talk about their situation. Martha Jefferson Hospital offers a variety of groups that offer support groups for family members of cancer patients: spouses, parents, mature children and friends of cancer patients. Fosters a community environment in which people with disabilities can achieve their maximum level of independence. Offers advocacy, information and referral, peer counseling, independent living skills training, transition services for youth, transition services for people with disabilities residing in nursing facilities, assistance devices & accessible home modifications such as ramps and grab bars. Offers community education as well as personal technical assistance on accessibility.

The ALS Association DC/MD/VA Chapter offers support groups for people with ALS, their families, and friends. The groups help people share information and strategies to maintain quality of life.

Our Peer Mentor Program provides patients with peer-to-peer learning and support on many aspects of sleep apnea, including use of positive airway pressure (PAP) machines (CPAP, Auto PAP, Bilevel PAP).

The Association provides the public and health care professionals with the most up-to-date information to help take a stand against diabetes through our Center for Information and Community Support (1-800-DIABETES) and two web sites, www.diabetes.org and www.stopdiabetes.com, as well as via consumer and professional books and periodicals. Local Signature special events: Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes, Tour de Cure in Reston, and Tour de Cure in Washington, DC. Community Outreach/Mission Delivery Programs are designed to help educate the community and people living with type 1 diabetes about managing the disease to live healthier lives.

Personalized cancer support and resources in a community-based, welcoming and private environment. Offers holistic help to cancer patients, survivors, their families, friends and caregivers. Provides patient navigation, travel assistance for medical appointments, liquid nutrition, pharmacy assistance and other financial help. Offers CancerHelp, a user-friendly database which contains the most up-to-date information about all types of cancer, cancer prevention, cancer screenings, cancer treatments and cancer research. Expands community awareness of and education about cancer issues, and enhances the quality of life of cancer patients, their family members and caregivers by addressing their psychological, social, emotional, spiritual and physical needs related to the impact of a diagnosis of cancer. Offers evidence-informed Understanding Cancer workshops through a partnership with University of Virginia Cancer Center.

Educates the public, patient, and physicians about diabetes management. Certified Diabetes Educators provide educational classes to Diabetes patients. In addition, offers one-on-one nutritional, gestational, meter, and pump education. Offers a free Pre-Diabetes Program. We are an ADA-recognized program. Also offers monthly support groups for insulin pump users and Type 2 Diabetes.

Reconnections promotes brain health, while creating connection for those living with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or in the early stages of memory impairment. Together with professional staff, small groups participate in discussion groups, recreational therapies, learning experiences, and all have the opportunity for peer support and to socialize in a safe, stigma-free setting.
