Volunteer Opportunities - Lorton, Lorton Community Action Center

Offers daytime, afternoon, occasional weekend, and seasonal volunteer opportunities lasting from one hour to four hours. Opportunities include but are not limited to: tutoring youth, tutoring adults in English as a 2nd Language, helping in the Thrift Store and food pantry, picking up food donations, and assisting LCAC educational opportunities for the families served. Child Advocacy - Charlottesville, Piedmont CASA

Recruits and trains community volunteers to serve as court advocates for abused and neglected children. Volunteers conduct independent investigations, submit reports and recommendations to the court and monitor the child's case to assure services are provided and court orders are being followed. Volunteer advocates also promote and support safe, permanent and nurturing homes for child victims before the courts of the 16th Judicial District of Virginia. Provides trained and screened volunteers matched to persons with visual impairments requesting assistance with reading, shopping, recording material onto tape at mutually agreeable hours. Adult volunteers are required to complete a volunteer application with reference checks and participate in an orientation session. Other volunteer opportunities include Camp Lighthouse counselors, special events and office assistance.
