The Center for Local History (CLH) collects, preserves, and shares historical documents that tell the history of Arlington County, its citizens, organizations, businesses, and social issues.
Building is used as a venue to be rented and also for Parks and Recreation programs.

The museum focuses on the Confederate medical story and contains exhibits on medical equipment and hospital life, including information on the men and women who staffed Chimborazo hospital.
The Meeting House and Cemetery are Virginia Historic Landmarks. They are also listed in the National Register of Historic Places. A written self-guided tour of the Meeting House is available from the secretary's office of the Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church, 5810 Fort Ave. between 9am-1pm Monday-Friday (except for major holidays).
Promotes an interest in the broad spectrum of history with emphasis on that of southwestern Virginia; collects, preserves, interprets, and makes available materials relating to that history; sponsors research and publication in the field of regional history; and provides educational services to people and institutions throughout southwestern Virginia.

Provides a state park which serves as a national monument to George Washington. A historic birthplace, home area, a colonial farm, a burial ground, hiking trails, beach, and picnic area are offered.

The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum offers a unique perspective on U.S. history, from Colonial to Civil War times and beyond. Exhibits include ship models, uniforms, military artifacts and exhibits portraying life in 18th, 19th and 20th century Portsmouth.
The museum provides Central Virginia with professionally curated exhibits that chronicle the African American experience and preserve the heritage of a significant segment of our community. Exhibits with accompanying programs on Medicine and Health, Education, Businesses, the Black Church, the Jim Crow area, Civil Rights Movement, and Social and Civic Organizations.

A museum, the ship's quarters are fitted out realistically and filled with fascinating artifacts, uniforms, photographs, models, and more.
A series of tours organized for mentally handicapped adults. The program includes free admission, light refreshments and a tour of the house and property. Avoca's goal is to create an atmosphere that simulates the interest and attention of those who are mentally handicapped and to provide them with a one-on-one interaction among staff and volunteers.
Regional offices are the first point of contact in Virginia for anyone seeking to nominate properties to the state and national registers, carry out local architectural or archaeological surveys, put historic resources to work in local comprehensive plans, promote the benefits of historic preservation, teach with historic places, study threatened archaeological sites, or develop and maintain sound local preservation programs.
A chronological arrangement of exhibits show how a unique geology and the presence of salt have influenced the area for millions of years. The museum displays locally recovered artifacts and fossils from the Ice Age to the Civil War and the Industrial Age. The Saltville Exhibit Hall features changing displays focusing on more local historic and cultural topics. Step back through time! Seventeen permanent exhibits feature regional geology, Woodland Indian culture, Ice Age fossils, Salt and the Civil War, Company Town culture, and more. The Museum Store offers unique stoneware, T-shirts, fossils, educational toys, old photographs of the region, a large array of books on local history, and many other items related to the natural and cultural history of the Middle Appalachians.

Home of Edward & Anne Spencer, poet. Adjoining the home in the garden is Anne's writing studio named, Edankraal, where Mrs. Spencer did much of her research and writing.
The Henry Hill Visitor Center provides park brochures, maps, trail guides and daily interpretive programs, a 45-minute orientation film and a museum exhibiting Civil War era uniforms, weapons and artifacts.

Six hisotric sites are open to the public, including Bacon's Castle, Cape Henry Lighthouse, Patrick Henry's Scotchtown, Historic Jamestowne, the John Marshall House and Smith's Fort. The multifaceted and impactful nature of the advocacy programs and partnerships with other organizations has allowed Preservation Virginia to create a holistic approach to saving the places that connect us to our diverse, complex history.
