Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation is a non-profit corporation devoted to education and historic preservation. The Foundation promotes educational and research programs about the life, times, philosophy, and contributions of Patrick Henry. As part of that mission, the Foundation maintains and interprets Red Hill, Patrick Henry's last home and burial place, as a historic site.
House tours, special events. Hands on educational programs relating to Civil War history, Victorian period and art. Art classes and workshops. Changing Art Galleries-National, Regional & Local Exhibits. Scholarships for art classes and camps available.
The Official Transportation Museum of the Commonwealth of Virginia portrays the history of transportation in the Southeastern United States with special interest in railroading. Provides educational tours for groups and schools with advance reservation. The Museum's collection includes approximately 2,500 objects, including more than 50 pieces of rolling stock"locomotives and other rail cars"including the largest collection of diesel locomotives in the South. The Museum has expanded its collection to include automotive, aviation, transit, and other artifacts and frequently exhibits loaned objects.
Building is used as a venue to be rented and also for Parks and Recreation programs.

Provides historical information and a genealogical research library. An O Winston Link exhibit is permanently displayed. Memberships are available.
The Virginia Museum of History & Culture collections consist of a wide range of objects, including books and bound serials, imprints, sheet music, broadsides, newspapers, family and personal papers, business and organizational records, genealogical materials, maps, paintings, prints, postcards, weapons, militaria, glass plate negatives, and photographs from the nineteenth century to the present.
Provides the public with exhibits, educational program and the history of the J. Thomas Newsome family and the expression of African American culture and historical themes.
This program utilizes hands-on activities, games and antique items and reproductions to familiarize students with colonial life and culture. Activities include making butter, a presentation on colonial clothing, a snack made up of colonial foods and a play session with colonial toys. Program held in Spring and Fall.

Dedicated to educating the general public, students and scholars on the changing role of the U.S. during the 20th century in military and diplomatic affairs as seen through the life and example of General of the Army, George C. Marshall. Offers a museum, library and archives, and educational programs.
Provides a living history site and an educational agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Museum features four historic, reconstructed working farms from Germany, Northern Ireland, England, and Botetourt County, Virginia, and a working 18th century blacksmith forge from Northern Ireland. The Meeting House and Cemetery are Virginia Historic Landmarks. They are also listed in the National Register of Historic Places. A written self-guided tour of the Meeting House is available from the secretary's office of the Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church, 5810 Fort Ave. between 9am-1pm Monday-Friday (except for major holidays).
Historic preservation museum. Offers film, artifact-filled galleries, and outdoor living history. Provides visitors with two centures of the nations history from the founding of America's first permanent English settlement to the Revolutionary War and implementation of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
Operates the Heritage Preservation Center, the Haller-Gibboney Rock House, and the Thomas J. Boyd Museum and Children's Discovery Center. Uses volunteers.
The museum provides Central Virginia with professionally curated exhibits that chronicle the African American experience and preserve the heritage of a significant segment of our community. Exhibits with accompanying programs on Medicine and Health, Education, Businesses, the Black Church, the Jim Crow area, Civil Rights Movement, and Social and Civic Organizations.

Provides a state park which serves as a national monument to George Washington. A historic birthplace, home area, a colonial farm, a burial ground, hiking trails, beach, and picnic area are offered.
Museum with exhibits about the history of the City of Suffolk. Reenactments and tours are also available at the museum.
Restores and maintains old landmarks and historical sites, and exchanges and dispenses relative information by printing and mailing a quarterly newsletter to members.
The museum provides a hands-on learning experience for children ages 0-8 and features 15 hands-on educational play areas over 6,000 square feet of exhibit space. Each exhibit is designed to engage children cognitively, physically, and socially, and our staff seeks to foster an environment in which children learn through exploratory and imaginative play and collaborative problem-solving.
The Watson Reading Room is a non-circulating research repository focusing on issues of African-American history and culture. Currently has over 3,000 holdings documenting the history of African Americans. Books, periodicals, dissertations, theses, video and audio tapes are accessible by patrons. This library is a non-circulating facility, but offers a 48-hour reserve shelf for patrons.
