A series of tours organized for mentally handicapped adults. The program includes free admission, light refreshments and a tour of the house and property. Avoca's goal is to create an atmosphere that simulates the interest and attention of those who are mentally handicapped and to provide them with a one-on-one interaction among staff and volunteers.

The Official Transportation Museum of the Commonwealth of Virginia portrays the history of transportation in the Southeastern United States with special interest in railroading. Provides educational tours for groups and schools with advance reservation. The Museum's collection includes approximately 2,500 objects, including more than 50 pieces of rolling stock"locomotives and other rail cars"including the largest collection of diesel locomotives in the South. The Museum has expanded its collection to include automotive, aviation, transit, and other artifacts and frequently exhibits loaned objects.
Built in 1791, the Miller-Claytor House represents Lynchburg's only surviving pre-19th century townhouse.
Established a series of education programs that are designed in accordance to Virginia's Standard of Learning objectives. Each 90 minute program includes hands on learning with pre and post visit activities. Also offers interactive presentations on Colonial and Civil War history.
Home of Edward & Anne Spencer, poet. Adjoining the home in the garden is Anne's writing studio named, Edankraal, where Mrs. Spencer did much of her research and writing.
This program utilizes hands-on activities, games and antique items and reproductions to familiarize students with colonial life and culture. Activities include making butter, a presentation on colonial clothing, a snack made up of colonial foods and a play session with colonial toys. Program held in Spring and Fall.

A membership organization dedicated to accumulating, preserving and protecting the history and genealogy of Wise County and the City of Norton. The society maintains a library of genealogical and historical books and manuscripts in Wampler Library, Mountain Empire Community College. Librarians trained in genealogical research will assist patrons with their family research. Wise County Historical Society publications are sold at the College Bookstore.
Restores and maintains old landmarks and historical sites, and exchanges and dispenses relative information by printing and mailing a quarterly newsletter to members.
Located in the heart of this historic town, the museum provides a rich and diverse historical collection with exhibits featuring possessions of James and Dolly Madison, the history and culture of Orange County, and a special Hall of Agriculture and Transportation the features a large collection of farm implements and vehicles, a 1923 Model T, sleighs and a 1732 Patent House erected at the direction of Royal Governor Alexander Spotswood.

A museum for the exploration of the American Civil War and its legacies from multiple perspectives: Union and Confederate, enslaved and free African Americans, soldiers and civilians.
Provides a living history site and an educational agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Museum features four historic, reconstructed working farms from Germany, Northern Ireland, England, and Botetourt County, Virginia, and a working 18th century blacksmith forge from Northern Ireland. The authentiCITY Studio is responsible for enforcing the City's Old and Historic District Ordinance as well as providing staff support to the Commission of Architectural Review, Public Art Commission, Urban Design Committee, History and Culture Commission and Section 106 Reviews.
The Museum maintains a wide array of artifacts: guns, furniture, glass & ceramics, textiles, accoutrements, books, swords, and other items spanning over half a century, from 1815 to 1873.
To preserve and present the Folk Life of the Blue Ridge. Official State center for Blue Ridge Folk Life. Working farm museum, 1800 period, Interpretive program. Rare breed farm animals. Blue Ridge Heritage Archive, Offices, Exhibit Rooms. Interpreter prepares meals over the open hearth, bake in an outdoor oven and carry out other period tasks amid heirloom vegetable gardens and early breeds of livestock.

Preservation of history and artifacts of the Staunton River area.
A large, old home with several restored outbuildings including three log structures. The complex features a number of historical and genealogical books, records, letters, documents, photos and paintings of early settlers in southwest Virginia. It specializes in artifacts circa 1810 to 1865. The earliest documents of Pulaski County are stored here due to the proximity of the first county courthouse. Note for those with GPS, the museum is in Newbern, but the physical address is Dublin on VA 611, I81 Exit 98.
