Housing organization operating a section 8 Voucher and Certificate program that provides rental assistance for eligible families (1-8 people per household). Single persons must be elderly handicapped, or disabled. The family's share of rent is based on their income.

Responsible for all data collection, data dissemination, and geographic operations, for Delaware, District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

Oversees the state's labor laws for both adults and children. Provides oversight and education regarding occupational safety and health issues. Responsible for enforcement of OSHA (safe and healthy occupational work environment for employees of businesses). Provides oversight for Virginia's Registered Apprenticeship Program, an industry based approach to learning that combines on-the-job training and classroom instruction to produce a skilled workforce. Provides boiler and pressure vessel certification, and regulation of child labor law and payment of wages law and labor law.

Virginia Works is the public employment service for all Virginians established to assist workers in finding suitable jobs and to assist employers in finding qualified workers, at no charge to either party. Virginia Works matches job seekers to employer job openings using the Virginia Workforce Connection online system (www.VaWC.virginia.gov), the largest database of employer listings in the Commonwealth. Staff can help with job searching, resumes, and applications, and the office provides a bank of computers for job seekers to use. If you lose your job, Virginia Works can help you with your claim for unemployment insurance (UI) benefits. Claims can be filed online at www.vec.virginia.gov, or by phone at 1-866-832-2363. In all services, Virginia Works gives priority to qualified Veterans. For employers, Virginia Works provides assistance with UI taxes and with recruitment, screening, and referrals of candidates. Virginia Works also provides extensive labor market information valuable to both job seekers and employers, and more.

Through the onsite New River Valley Business Center: *Specializes in the areas of small business services, entrepreneurship, manufacturing, and international business, providing a distinct blend of programs, services, and resources; *Offers services that include connections to business counseling, sponsored programs, seminars, publications, and information services; *Supports the operations of businesses, entrepreneurs, and local governments throughout the New River Valley; *Provides entrepreneurs in the region with access to staff, students, information sources, and other resources required to help them start up and grow their businesses, improve their organizations, and strengthen the regional economy. Financial Assistance: The point of access for loan funds serving the region. Manages the New River Valley Revolving Loan Fund. These funds are directed toward businesses which are developing an association with one of the incubator facilities, the multi-tenant facility, or are eligible for location in one of the facilities. Information and Referral: Maintains relationships with numerous organizations in the region and beyond to provide those seeking business assistance with contacts which can best address their questions and meet their business development needs.

Goodwill Industries of the Valleys, headquartered in Roanoke, is providing job training and employment services throughout its service area in the Roanoke, New River, and Shenandoah Valleys of Virginia. Programs are available to assist individuals with disabilities, disadvantages, and job seekers seeking to improve their employment opportunities. Primarily funded through the collection and sale of donated goods. Also relies on the generous financial support of individual and corporate donors. Offers industrial services to business and industry, which provides the training and employment opportunities for individuals participating in our workforce development programs. A part of a network of local, autonomous Goodwill member organizations in the United States and Canada. Each Goodwill operates under the umbrella of a common mission; however, each functions as an independent organization with its own programs and locally-elected board of directors. Goodwill Industries International links all Goodwill members together to ensure quality standards, shared leadership, and a fluid exchange of ideas throughout the Goodwill movement.
