Heads the legislative branch of the local government. Board has control over taxation, budgets, borrowings, certain appointments and accounting.
County Administration is responsible for administering and coordinating the daily operations of all departments of the County, under the guidance and supervision of the Board of Supervisors. The County Administrator serves as the chief administrative and operating officer, including management and personnel administration, financial management & budget preparation and organizational management. The County Administrator advises and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors, as well as implementing goals and policies established by the Board.
The Bedford County Commissioner of Revenue is primarily responsible for assessing all property that is taxable by law and to apply the tax rates that are approved by the Bedford County Board of Supervisors. The Commissioner of Revenue also administers the tax relief program for the elderly, disabled, and disabled veterans and the Land Use Assessment Program.
