Our office provides site evaluations and permitting for on-site sewage disposal (septic) systems and private wells, as well as regulatory oversight for private sector evaluations and designs in these fields. We provide health education to the community with regard to safe food handling practices, lead exposure, radon, rabies, and other environmental health concerns.ur office also inspects and/or permits daycare and adult care facilities, school cafeterias, restaurants, hotels/motels, bed and breakfasts, festival and fair vendors, campgrounds, summer camps, migrant labor camps, and marinas. Additionally, we investigate animal bites and/or potential rabies exposures and certain environmental complaints.

The Planning Division is responsible for guiding and regulating Arlington's short and long-range development by working with the community to develop plans, analyze development and rezoning requests in the light of those plans, provide zoning and code enforcement activities, and review and issue permits for construction of residential and commercial development.

Provides review and approval of proposed construction projects, issues various construction permit, inspects and approves work in progress, issues certificates of occupancy for new construction, enforces minimum maintenance provisions for existing buildings, administers Cross Connection Control program to insure safe drinking water, assists public, contractors, architects, etc., with building or construction related issues. Inspects elevators in all commercial buildings and enforces rental housing program.
The building inspectors office issues permits for work done in Tazewell County, the Towns of Tazewell, Richlands, Pocahontas, and Cedar Bluff. (The Town of Bluefield has a Building Official and all permitting is done through that office.)
The Department of Community Development is charged with the protection and enhancement of the quality of Purcellville's natural and built environments. This is accomplish through comprehensive planning for the Town's future and through administration of Town development and zoning regulations.

Building Inspections is responsible for the enforcement of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code. This is done through the issuance of building permits and conducting the required inspections during the construction process. Enforcement of the USBC ensures that the minimum standards required for the construction of structures is met in order to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public.
Reviews residential and commercial construction documents for code compliance, issues permits, performs inspections, issues certificates of occupancy and responds to citizen's questions about construction requirements.
