Head Start provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition, dental, mental health, social services and parent involvement opportunities to low-income children and their families.
Offers a comprehensive, quality preschool program to eligible families. Establishes partnership agreements among participant families, the public school divisions and the communities they serve to foster maximum development in children. Provides children age 3 to 5 with a quality learning environment and varies experience that supports their social, intellectual, physical and emotional development in a developmental appropriate manner to enhance participant social competence. Supports a parent involvement advocacy group to promote the value of parent volunteering in activities that benefits development and opportunities with their children.
Helps lower-income children ages 3 and 4, begin school on a equal developmental footing with their more advantaged peers and helps their families become more self-sufficient. This is accomplished through a center- and home-based high-quality early care and education program, parent support and involvement, health and nutrition services, transportation, family services, and services for children with special needs. Children are given breakfast, lunch and a snack.
Provides a school readiness, preschool program for children from low income families, ages three to five years. The program also offers training and support services to parents.
The Richmond Public Schools Early Head Start/Head Start Program provides comprehensive services to low-income pregnant moms, infants and toddlers, and preschool children and their families. Children will receive a developmentally appropriate experience that will make a difference in their academic achievement in school. Additionally, we will enhance family self-sufficiency and encourage development of the family unit to achieve their fullest potential.

Head Start is a national child development program that serves families with children from birth to age five, and expectant parents. The program is designed to prepare children for success in school by enhancing their intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development. This service is provided at no cost to eligible families.

STEP provides education, nutritious meals, and the opportunity for social, emotional, and intellectual growth that helps prepare the children for success in school and in life. Part day: four days a week, Tuesday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., August to May.

HRCAP Head Start is a federally funded early childhood pre-school program for over 1,200 three and four-year-old children of low income families living in Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk and Portsmouth, Virginia. Comprehensive services for children and families are: Health, Education, Nutrition, Family Services, Mental Health/Disabilities, Community Family Partnerships, Parent Involvement, and Transportation for children residing in designated boundaries. The program provides service to disabled children and some spaces may be reserved for over income families.
STEPS Head Start provides early interventions for children and families to increase self-sufficiency and school readiness.

A comprehensive early childhood education program serving children 6 weeks to 5 years old and their families in school-based and community-based settings in the Cities of Harrisonburg, Staunton, and Waynesboro, in the Counties of Augusta, Bath, Highland, and Rockbridge, in Community Child Care in Staunton, and Creative Wonders in Stuarts Draft. Program focuses on child and family development and promotes school readiness. Comprehensive services support development in the areas of social skills, emotional awareness, mental health, health and wellness, education, and family involvement. The program emphasizes the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development that is age appropriate for each child.
Head Start and Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) provides preschool for the children of Spotsylvania County who will be age four on or before September 30th for the school year prior to kindergarten. Both programs are based on income and other child and family factors.
