The Assistant Secretary of Labor for VETS has designated these specific groups of veterans to receive special assistance. Veterans may access these employment services through a statewide network of VEC Field Operations offices and the Veterans Services Staff (DVOP and LVER) who are assigned to most, but not all, of the VEC Workforce Centers across Virginia. The VEC assists between 13,000 and 15,000 veterans annually in securing unsubsidized employment, depending on the economy and employer demand. Offers veterans a wide variety of job search and training services through special veterans' representatives at most One-Stop Career Centers. Provides assessment of individual interest, skills, and abilities, as well as counseling, to assist with an effective job search. Virginia Works provides veterans, their spouses, and eligible others from all periods of military service with job referral, job training and job placement assistance through a statewide network of Virginia Works local offices. Most offices employ special Veterans Employment Representatives. The Fishersville Virginia Works Office serves veterans from Augusta, Highland, and Rockbridge counties and the cities of Staunton, Waynesboro, Lexington, and Buena Vista. All veterans are offered Priority of Service in Virginia Works local offices. Additional in-depth services may be provided those veterans who are disabled, homeless, recently separated from the military, previously incarcerated, aged 18-24, and/or economically disadvantaged. VSN work with employers to fill temp-to-perm, contract, and direct-hire positions as well as offering consulting and professional services project teams. Career coaches help veterans and military spouses leverage the skills acquired through military service to achieve meaningful career goals.
Hire Heroes USA empowers transitioning military, veterans, and military spouses to find employment in the civilian workplace. We provide job search support beginning with a professional resume, mock interviews, and other support services. We also connect clients to partners who supply needs that fall outside our mission and scope of service. All services are free to clients and are provided in a virtual environment through call, email, text, etc.
The Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) program helps the service members and veterans of Washington, DC and in certain counties of Virginia and Maryland, who have service-connected disabilities by offering them services and assistance to help them prepare for, find, and keep suitable employment. For veterans with serious service-connected disabilities, VA also offers a program of services to improve their ability to live as independently as possible.
